Work Starts on Oldminster Sidings

The penultimate weekend of April was a milestone for the Vale of Berkeley Railway, with the first volunteers able to start clearance work of the undergrowth at Oldminster sidings.

A month earlier, after three years of hard work by a dedicated team and following two environmental surveys, Network Rail granted VBR a license to access and clear these sidings. In accordance with the Wildlife & Countryside act, the environmental survey advice, license conditions and an agreed methods statement, once the temperature was warm enough for reptiles to be mobile, manual hand clearance of the undergrowth could start. This work will continue under the strict guidance of a small team of trained team leaders with a restricted number of volunteers in order to prevent the disturbance of any nesting birds.

For a monthly update on progress a special Oldminster Sidings Projects page has been created.
