Support Us

The Vale of Berkeley Railway is one of those rare chances to become involved in a new heritage railway that is different in so many ways.

Situated in Gloucestershire, alongside the stunningly beautiful Severn Estuary and enjoying a mainline connection to the Bristol-Birmingham main line at one end and Gloucester Shipping Canal and Sharpness Docks at the other, we are working alongside local attractions, businesses and stake holders to create a unique partnership that will help to regenerate the area.

Our aim is to open the Sharpness branch line as a working heritage railway museum, in order to tell the story of how freight was moved by rail across the country and provide working heritage trains for the public to visit and enjoy. We plan to achieve this by developing the project through a number of distinct phases over the next few years.

Currently we have an engineering base next to the docks where our volunteers are working to restore various railway vehicles ready for when we gain access to the branch line. We have also secured a license with Network Rail to the sidings at the end of the branch, which we are clearing in order to provide a location for our vehicles to operate from.

In order to achieve our plans we need your help and support in the following ways:

Join one of our funding schemes
As with many projects, suitable funding is vital in order to progress and help achieve our goals. Whilst we are progressing a number of applications to external funding bodies, it’s essential we also raise money ourselves and so we’ve created a number of funding schemes, that will appeal to different people.  In return for joining one of our schemes, subscribers will receive a number of exclusive benefits.
